Origins of tantric massage

Good evening everyone,

There are many misconceptions about the origins of Tantric massage.
Many people believe that Tantric massage originated in ancient India.

It didn't originate in India thousands of years ago, but began to become popular at the ashram of Rajneesh (better known as Osho) in Pune, India in the 1970s, then spread to California in the 1980s.

Tantric massage has nothing to do with tantra in the true sense of the word.

Its origins lie mainly in the work of two people: a Frenchwoman, Margot Anand, and an American, Joseph Kramer.

Much of their work was influenced by Wilhelm Reich, Carl Rogers, Alexander Lowen and the many other pioneers of the human consciousness movement around the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, as well as by Taoist philosophy, Mantak Chia and the teachings of Rajneesh, later named Osho, a controversial Indian guru of the period.

Margot Anand

Margot Anand graduated from the Sorbonne University in Paris.
In the 1970s, she was drawn to India and stayed for some time at Rajneesh's ashram in Poona.

Rajneesh, whose name was later changed to Osho, was a controversial guru who reportedly owned 99 Rolls Royces and promoted his own brand of tantra, which was later called neo-tantra.

He encouraged his large group of followers to get rid of their inhibitions, particularly their sexual inhibitions.

Margot Anand is the founder of Skydancing Tantra.

She led workshops at the ashram and then moved to California, where she wrote books, led retreats and built a large Skydancing Tantra Institute that now has branches all over the world.

Joseph Kramer

Joseph Kramer is a native of Oakland, California.
He has been a teacher, sex therapist, masseur, therapist, filmmaker and former Jesuit priest-in-training.

In 1982, he developed Taoist erotic massage.

He developed his own method of erotic genital massage for men and also collaborated with Annie Sprinkle, a former sex worker, on the origin of yoni massage for women.

Kramer is known to many as a pioneer of erotic massage and is considered by many to be the world's foremost erotic massage trainer.

In 1984, he founded the Body Electric School in Oakland, where he has trained thousands of professional masseurs, and sex coaches.

He has produced countless videos on erotic massage techniques.

In 2003, he founded the new legal profession of Sexological Bodywork, offering professional training in California, Europe, Canada and Australia.

Andreas Rothe

In Germany, in 1977, Andreas Rothe, known as Andro, a former disciple of Osho, founded the first Tantric massage school in Germany.

He developed the massage known as "Tantric Healing Massage", which has been adopted in Germany as the basis for Tantric massage, and is professionally recognized in the country. It is an integration of various techniques from recognized forms of massage, bioenergetics, yoga and sex therapy.

I hope I've shed some light on the subject...
